Going Rogue In J-Bay, The World Cup Aftermath...

Things are most interesting of late, So the book is done and printed. I will be picking up a few fresh new copies to do some select leak promotion; as well as giving out a number of OG Litho' plates from the book. My dirt cheep cellphone gets stolen at this Adidas gig I play in Cape Town. Who cares, yah? Wrong, I lost over 500 cell phone numbers that were on that phone with 2 memory cards full. So if your in South Africa and I had your phone number chances are I don't any more so call me. I did a SIM swap and got the same number so thats a plus I guess. Shortly after that my internet got capped for the month and that was it. I am off the grid and out of communication for a few days. I start to bug out a bit and then it dawns on me. Time for J-Bay...

I am glad to say it has been a ride to remember, and its not over.

I sold out of the first batch of books (intended for reactions and leek promo) and had to get my publishers to courier up another small batch asap. One more notch on their belt, and another 'Big Up' to Formsxpress.

If your lucky enough to find me in J-Bay maybe you could get copy (Or check out the new hotspot to chow near Supers called Nina's, they bought one to put on display). Otherwise you will have to 'chill-axe' and be a good sport like the rest. I will have some class web distribution up in a jiffy in addition to a few killer exhibition/launch events across South Africa over the next few months. Cape Town is first up and its going to be one for the history books.

Until I come back from the Wild and Unknown,
Enjoy-

"The Boyz Are Bleeding For My Book", As I Finish Printing The Last Pages and Make Some Final Corrections

I watch in anticipation as the last pages of my book roll off the massive Litho' Press. Could I be ever so close to the real finished product? I spent more than a year on post production getting everything sorted and dialed in. Along the way learning about the entire printing process and how in depth it is. I needed to make a last minute materials change on the Deluxe Edition cover art because it was not looking super-duper fresh enough. Now it looks top class, almost too good. Cats are going to flip out when they see the OG hand styles. These are a few of the boyz in the factory that helped make my book. While printing the last few pages of my book, one of the guys busted his eye wide open. He slammed into one of the big machines and got knocked out; he had to go to the hospital only to return to work later that day to help finish printing the final section. Now that is the kind of commitment I wish most people had. Big up to all the people at Formsxpress who helped in the production of my book. The Final Stretch is here.... Enjoy-

Strap a Really Expensive Camera To My Chest and See What Happens at Adidas Originals - Three Stories Cape Town (Video Clip)

For the past 5 weeks Adidas Originals has turned the Woodstock Industrial Centre into a massive 2010 World Cup Soccer viewing area and hipster loitering zone. The place has basically turned into a home where artists, sculptors, photographers and general trendsetters link up to watch the games, cool out and have a blast. Three Stories played host to six different Art Exhibitions, a top class mini-ramp downstairs, HD projector screen upstairs, free-flowing freshly-popped popcorn, a good selection of booze, homemade food, as well as live acts and DJ's rocking out just for kicks'. I played a few different roles over the more than month long event; I DJ'ed a few gigs (like at one of the main Graffiti Exhibitions) as well as helped host a couple fun skateboard events. In addition to my normal photo/jurno antics I was a contributing artist to a few of the exhibitions. During the first week I helped the film crew shoot some great skate footage on the mini-ramp. They strapped a very pricey high end digital SLR to my chest and had me skate the mini-ramp. The footage came out too sick, and i will make sure I get the raw clips from them. But in the mean time here is the short promo video for the event. Enjoy-

DJ Just Be...? Rocks' the Freshest Beats at Adidas Three Stories for The Color Blue Letter 'A' Exhibition

I was hyped and privileged to recently play a set at the massive 'Three Stories' Adidas event going down in Cape Town over the 2010 World Cup. The event will host a number of art exhibitions over the five week period; as well as having a skateboard and entertainment area. In addition to a pimped out loft for soccer game viewings and after-parties. I was spinning wax at one of the bigger graffiti exhibitions called "The letter 'a' in the color blue". Check out some of the top class South African Graffiti artists who were selected to participate; artists like Rasty, Mak1one, Play, Conform, and Tyler B. Murphy to name a few. I also had a rad session on the mini ramp rollin' with Rob D & Wealz. Safe-

Book-Pre-Print Video w/ Original Music by P.H.Fat (© Jared Aufrichtig)

Check out this short video I made for my book promotion, it shows some of the print process that most people don't see. While working on the production and printing phase of my book I have gained vast publishing knowledge and was quickly educated on how in-depth the whole print process is. The cats from P.H.Fat hooked me up with a splendid track that I knew would work, even before I started editing the clips. Big up for the beats...
Hope you enjoy,

There are a number of exhibitions going down during the month long adidas Three Stories event, in addition there is a skateboard & entertainment area. Here are a few of the pieces i did for 2 of the exhibitions (Papergirl and The Bin R250 Show). Lucky cats that go to the openings might find a few little surprises as well...

I am also rocking a set on the 1's and 2's for one of the bigger exhibitions (The letter 'a' in the color blue). I will clue in more details of the things that go down, events and what not...

The Definitive South African Youth Culture Book Is Almost Here!!!

On a recent trip to the printers, to sign off the last of the Litho plates, I found out that they were doing the first make ready's for the Komori Lithographic Printer that will be printing my book. This is one crazy piece of machinery, it coasts more then 50 Million Rand and took them almost the entire month of January to ship and assemble. It had to be moved in sections because of the size and weight as well as having to used a massive crane to get it in the factory. So when I saw the preliminary proof sheets being set up I got a bit excited and I was all over it in a heart beat. I got in there like a pro, checking the designs, color and bleed with the print master and crew like i was the big boss man. Over the last year I have learnt so much about the postproduction and printing process. I am so glad I ended up doing the whole thing myself, it might have been a ruff road but the path i have taken has been enlightening and educational to say the least. I will start launching the book at the end of the month with a series of launch events and exhibitions, fallowed by a small national book tour. Look out for the real deal ting' dropping soon until then I'll keep you posted.... Enjoy

Check Out This Record Find!!!

DJ Just Be...? added a few ultra rare classic punk albums to the wax collection recently. Found at a used vinyl shop in Muizenberg out side of Cape Town, South Africa. They are both O.G. pressings from 1977' none of that re-issue junk. So amped to drop these timeless tracks in a set or a new mix. Much thanks to the person who keep these vinyl pristine for such a long time for me and others to enjoy.
Big up,

Falko's Solo Exhibition

Falko is one of the illustrious South African graffiti artist featured in my book, recently he had a big solo exhibition in Cape Town. He has been in the graffiti game for over twenty years and it shows in his style, technique, and approach. Here are a few images from the exhibition opening, in addition to a photograph I took of him in a shantytown with one of his rural urban pieces. Enjoy-

Kronk's Nike Bleed Your Colors Launch Event Kicks Down!!!

My friend Kris Hewitt Aka Kronk (who is one of the artist involved in my book about South Africa and helped design the artwork for the Limited Edition Cover) was recently part of a massive worldwide Nike special edition artist range. Six artists from around the world were picked to design a new range to match their country. Nike has selected six of the worlds premier artists and matched them up with the national football teams they hail from, giving them the chance to rock out some fresh design to a classic range. Each artist contributes a badge, mascot, pattern and alphabet in their own style. Some of the other renowned artists involved include Delta from The Netherlands and Mr. Cartoon from The United States. Kronk was picked to rep South Africa, the host country for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Nike opened their pockets for the launch event at ShelfLife, which was a closed exclusive event with a decent open bar. Kris was posted up at this table on the second floor signing and doodling most of the night. It was chaos but good times for sure, he doodled a few cool little canvases which ended up getting stolen off the wall as well as this girl who brought her own only to have it taken out her backpack less than hour after he sketched it for her. I could see that stuff ending up on e-bay someday. There were lots of who's who at the event and cats did not hesitate to drink the open bar dry. I met this rad English guy named Chris Rawlinson who is one of the biggest, baddest bloggers on the planet. He seemed amped to check out my book and come to a launch/ exhibition next month. We spoke for a bit about the BS going down in SA and he shot a pic of me taking a B&W photo of him. I shot a few portraits of him in front of this big Kronk/ Nike design as well a some rad images showing some of the nights crazy antics. Tyler B. Murphy the other artist who help me design the Deluxe Edition Cover for my book also made a guest appearance and end up having to do a few doodles as well, coincidentally but funny as f-ck. And if you still don't know who Kronk is here are a few of the Dunnys he has done for Kid Robot; each one has sold out world wide in less than a few days (this set alone would sell for a few thousand easily). Big up Kris,

Keep Kronkin'
