RedBull NightShift Featuring Jordy Smith and Friends Goes Down in Camps Bay with Flying Success!

Jordy Smith was chilling in Cape Town for a while in January enjoying the summer vibes before heading out to begin the 2011 WCT. Seeing as he finished off last year 2nd in the world to the 10-time Champion Phenom known a Kelly Slater, RedBull decided to give him a little treat for having such a bad-ass year. And thus gave birth to the RedBull NightShift held in Camps Bay on the 9th of Jan, 2011. Jordy along with seven of his good friends had a blast in the dark, literally. Boosting Airs into the evening using tons of floodlights; they had Jet-Skies pulling and whipping them into knee high shore-break.

I don't think anyone could have anticipated the huge turnout for this inaugural event. Smith's surf buddies who joined him in the water were: Craig Anderson, Damien Fahrenfort, Ricky Basnett, Travis Logie, Rudy Palmboom Jr, Warwick Wright and Royden Bryson. I shot a few med-format portraits of Jordy prior to the event and a few images before the sun and light were gone. After sunset I shot a few video clips that I will be editing together into something good. Here is a bit of what went down...

One Down For The Books - Happy, Happy and A Blogging Good Year!

Born from a need to showcase and document the growing creative lifestyle surrounding myself, my passions, and the people I interact with...

Thus gave birth to the blog...

And,

One year later to the day...

I have joined the ranks of Self-Proclaimed 'Interweb' Gurus posting about anything and everything I consider 'Uber-Hip'

But, I will do my best not to be a 'Dick-Head Hipster' in addition to keeping this blog as honest and real as possible...
(If you have not seen the 'Dick-Head Hipster' You-Tube video clip do yourself a favor and check it out and have a good laugh, here is the link-

It has been a wild and manic 365 days to put it lightly...
With the biggest thing being the South African release of my 1st book
- Expressions Book One South Africa

So what is in store for 2011 you ask...

Who Knows?

A Plethora of untold wonder and creativity

Although you will be sure to hear something from me this year bubbling up from the cut like peroxide....

Until next time,
Safe-

Illustrator & Cartoonist Dav Andrew does a wicked caricature of Me while DJ'ing at Three Stories Cape Town a few months back

Dav Andrew is a very talented young Artist/Cartoonist from South Africa. I linked up with him at Three Stories Cape Town (a 5 week creative event/exhibition during the World Cup) and talked to him about different ways to get his stuff out there because he had skills. A few weeks later he hit me up to tell me he had done a Toon'/Caricature of me and put it up on one of his Portfolio sites. Here is the final version along with a site showing more of his work.... 'RUN DBN' Dec. 2010 with DJ Just Be...?

While in Durban for 2 weeks doing promotion for my Book I played a number of DJ gigs. Each gig had its own crowd and seen, I got to mash up all different types of music. Killin' it at every spot, from the BowlRiders to Origin and GMT (Good Music Tuesdays) to BBB's. Cats were feelin' each set and really digging the vibes, I got some new gigs lined up for my next DBN mission in a few months.

'Some-Ting To Peep' Vol. 3

I recently picked up a few old school camera bodies, this image was taken with a half frame 35mm camera and it is from my 1st test roll (both subjects are underpaid workers in Woodstock a stones-throw away from Cape Town, South Africa). I am digging this camera and getting to know it more and more with each roll. Look out for the stuff I shot during my 2 week RUN DBN missions, getting the film scanned to digital later today....
